Kia

 |

Iran

Raised in Iran, Kia was taught from a young age that Islam was the final and complete iteration of faith, superseding previous religions. However, he found himself with unanswered questions that Islam couldn't resolve. Kia wanted to explore other religious texts with the expectation that it would strengthen his Islamic beliefs, Kia sought out a Bible. Due to its illegal status in Iran, he had to purchase one through the black market, and it was only the New Testament.

As Kia read the Bible, he found its teachings to be drastically different from the Quran. He noted the stark contrast between Jesus's Sermon on the Mount, advocating forgiveness for one's enemies, and the Quran's directive to kill them. This led him to believe the two texts couldn’t represent the same God. After several months, Kia decided to convert to Christianity.

Kia’s conversion was met with resistance from his family and community. Some friends, influenced by their families and Islamic teachings that deemed Kia unclean, cut off contact with him. Despite this adversity, Kia felt compelled to share his newfound faith and began evangelizing. This led to his arrest three years after his conversion, though he was not jailed. Authorities confiscated his Bibles and religious materials, warning him against further evangelizing.

Fearful of further persecution but determined he turned to the Bible app on his smartphone to discreetly continue reading scripture. He credits the Bible App with allowing him to read the Bible in its entirety for the first time, something he hadn't accomplished with printed copies.
