We believe everyone, everywhere should be able to engage with God’s Word, every single day. That’s been the heart behind YouVersion since day one. And it still is.
From a simple idea in an airport security line to a global movement of nearly a billion installs, YouVersion is how technology and faith come together to meet people where they are.

YouVersion was created by Life.Church, a local church committed to making Scripture accessible to everyone, everywhere.
It began in 2006, standing in line at Chicago O’Hare Airport. Someone on the Life.Church team asked, “How could new technologies change the way we engage with the Bible today?”
That moment sparked a new idea, Our founder, Bobby Gruenewald, searched for domain names on his phone. His first idea, u-verse, was taken.
Then he found youversion.com and bought it on the spot. The online Bible site didn’t take off. But we didn’t stop.
When the App Store launched in 2008, we made a pivot. YouVersion became one of the first 200 apps available. By the end of that weekend, 83,000 people had downloaded the Bible App.
And that’s when the mission took flight.

Since 2008, the Bible App has grown from 83,000 downloads to nearly 1 billion installs across our Family of Apps. With your support, we’re on pace to reach 2 billion by 2030 and 3 billion by 2033.

Going Local to Reach More People
As YouVersion continues to grow, we're planting deeper roots in local communities. Our Regional Hubs are physical offices staffed by local teams who work directly with churches, ministries, and content creators in their region. These hubs help us build real relationships, serve in native languages, and better support local spiritual needs.
